THE PATH

Title: The Path

Medium: Acrylic on canvas 102cm x 76cm

Year 2018

Artist :Lyia Meta

A continual passage to that which we consider our destination, of arriving home. Indeed we each have that journey to make and we walk the path of life that’s often wrought with circumstances beyond our control. Tumultuous at times, there will always be light for every dark and vice versa. So walk we must, spectators at times, side by side with time.

The tumultuous skies speak of our journey as it changes with passing time. The light and dark inhabits the same space as it undulates to the rhythm of life. It gives and it will take.

The surrounding landscape our refuge, we seek ourselves and purpose as we stand on this path. An observer, spectator, traveller and a seeker, we WILL reach our destination.FB_IMG_1519536933260

ABOUT LYIA META

Singer, songwriter and visual artist with a penchant for speaking through song and turn of phrase, where freedom is found through voice that’s “big, bold and beautiful”.

This Malaysian born spent her childhood in a small town in the state of Malacca where her music and art were the mainstay of her everyday life.

Her debut EP ‘This is Lyia’ which garnered 6 nominations from Voice Independent Music Awards (VIMA) in May of 2016 saw her win the award for BEST OVERALL FEMALE ACT.  The debut offering which is described as “raw”, “organic” and “bold” is a reflection of her roots in rock, blues and pop.

That same year, Lyia Meta was nominated top 5 for Anugerah Industri Awards (A.I.M) for Best New Artist.  Selected from more than 700 entries and touted as Malaysia’s very own Grammy, the nomination gained her recognition on a National level.

In December of 2016, out of 600 acts, Radio Wigwam UK selected 13 acts/songs for their ‘Bandwagon Songs of 2016’.  Among them was Lyia’s song Slumber.

April 2017 saw Lyia Meta win The Gold Medal Award for Best Rock Ballad for her song  ‘Slumber’ from Global Music Awards, California.

This was soon followed by her garnering another nomination and subsequently winning the title and an Award from Radio Wigwam (UK) for BEST FEMALE ARTIST  for their RADIO WIGWAM ONLINE RADIO AWARDS 2017.

The Star

“A debut offering from a club circuit stalwart is still able to raise an eye brow or two. Why? It’s hard to say for sure, but working musicians often get typecast as imitators and not innovators, but that’s where Lyia breaks the mould.

This Is Lyia is a five-song offering that harkens back to the golden age of songwriting, where turn of phrase and sumptuous melodies are still the order of the day. The Klang Valley-based singer-songwriter is clearly schooled in the sounds of 1970s and flexes that intuition from the off with She’s Searching, a tale of self-discovery, driven by crystalline acoustic guitars….”- The Star

Soundwaves Review

I often lament the fact that there are so few powerful female rock singers. Rarely do I come across one who can even stand in the same lane as Ann Wilson of Heart, who, to me, epitomizes the female rocker. Then, along comes Lyia Meta, whose voice rivals that of Ann Wilson in power, range, and passion.

Lyia Meta embodies the feel of classic rock. She can stretch out notes and soar, or give us a low growl with just the right amount of rasp. Lyia doesn’t bother with vocal tricks or fancy runs. She doesn’t need tricks to get our attention. She straight-up sings, the way rock is meant to sound; big and bold and beautiful.

Lyia’s debut, self-titled EP, is simply brilliant. ….” SOUNDWAVES REVIEW

If you created a song that fused the vocals of Angela Bofill with the soulful blues arrangement and scorned lover theme of an Etta James tune, you’d come up with “For You,” an original track by Lyia Meta.

Meta is of Malaccan Portuguese descent and like many Europeans she developed a love for the blues based music that dominated the 1960s and 70s…..” -Howard Dukes (SOULTRACKS.COM)

VOICE INDEPENDENT MUSIC ASIA (VIMA)-interview.

. What are your thoughts about the current music scene and what can be done to make things better?

“There’s so many factors that contribute to the state of the current music scene. From piracy, to people less willing to pay for music, to our radio stations being ‘selective’ to the choices they make. The music scene has changed so very much since I started. There’s so many good acts out there but we need heroes, giants. We need to be louder than the business of music. We stifle creativity and originality when we start to equate it with the dollar signs. I can’t help hearing the Don Maclean’s song American Pie in my head..” the day the music died.”………VIMA

DIGITAL EAR BUDS

Lyia Meta ~ Like many of you, I tend to be pretty eclectic in my music library, which is a good thing since my moods are rather eclectic as well. On one particular day, my earbuds and auditory receptors had absorbed about twenty pop songs submitted to me via my email box. Twenty seemed like a good number to end on for that session I needed to clear my head. But sometimes my OCD gets the best of me, and I clicked open just one more email.

There it was; a photo of Lyia Meta; a rather lovely one I must say, inviting me to click one of the new songs from her new This Is Lyia EP now available on both iTunes and Amazon. I selectedFor You to be my first listen and then spent the next thirty minutes listening and researching this talented female from Malacca City. That first song I chose during myLyia Meta discovery ended up being my favorite. So of course I’ve embedded it below for you to enjoy. Her soulful, bluesy laced lyrics and vocals were just what I needed to dissolve the not-so-good stuff I had been listening to the previous two hours. It’s no surprise Lyia describes her music as “…classic rock, blues, oldies, and light jazz.” She sings solo, but also refers to Zack Meta as her “other half” as he often appears on stage with her as a solid duo. He also acts as Lyia’s general manager.
After searching for information about about Lyia, I learned she’s of Malaccan Portuguese heritage. Home is Malacca City in Malacca, which is ofter referred to as “The Historic State” in Malaysia.

It makes complete sense why she identifies with classic rock and R & B. When asked, she’ll tell you that she’s “…greatly influenced by the music of the 60’s and the 70’s.” I consider Lyia Meta a blue collar singer-songwriter. Not in the industrial sense, but in her work ethic. She’s done her time in both large and small venues for several years and describes her debut EP as “… a testament to the years I’ve spent in the club circuit, singing at a variety of clubs and traveling the peninsula singing my heart out at gigs.” All that hard work and sweat must have paid off, because Lyia received six nominations for two of her songs from Voice Independent Music Awards Asia (VIMA) in May of 2016. She was also named “Best Overall Female Act” by VIMA in August, 2016. Now, I feel confident that I’ve shared the complete Lyia Meta with you; stunning, musically talented and artistically gifted. Go ahead. Head on over to her Spotify or Soundcloud Page to enjoy her This Is Lyia album. You may just find yourself dropping a few bucks down to add her to your music collection. I know I did, and after listening to twenty plus song that didn’t quite resonate, it was one of my better decisions on that given day.-“-Digital Ear buds

Kabir Bedi (Indian actor) as Sandokan (television series)

An Italian six-part television series directed by Sergio Sollima, based upon the novels of Emilio Salgari.

About Sandokan
—————-
“Malaysia, the second half of the 19th century. The English Queen Victoria owns the domain of the eastern lands of Borneo. The occupying British forces are commanded by Lord James Brooke, oppressive and ruthless governor and father of the beautiful Marianna, nicknamed “the Pearl of Labuan”. The brave Sandokan is a young Indian prince, who has lost his kingdom and title as result of the British annexation. Sandokan is now the captain of a den of pirates, who make constant attacks against British forces.”
